Foods at Sukhumvit Road

All people love their food, and the Thai people are no different! Thai cuisine is famed around the world but it isn't until you stroll along Sukhumvit Road that you will really understand the full range and scope of flavors available.  Being part of an international city there are choices ranging from home grown Thai cuisine to the heights of global cuisine , with many blends in-between to suite any taste or budget.

Thai - of course

In Thailand eat Thai food of course, but this means many different things to different people. And while authentic daily Thai food is available in every cafe, shopping mall, restaurant or hotel much of that may not be so convenient for the visitor to our land. So consider some restaurants which have developed good ways for the tourist to enjoy our food, but in a comfortable environment with English menus and allowances for different levels of spiciness that people may desire.

Supanniga Eating Room - Home Thai favorites served in a contemporary style makes this a suitable place for all lovers of Thai food. Offering Northern specialties cooked just as you would find at home, this fine restaurant serves mostly Bangkok locals but has menus in English and welcome tourists as well. Located near the Pan Pacific Serviced Apartments it is open for dinner, reservations recommended. website

Soul Food Mahanakorn - Regional Thai specialties served at this small location on Sukhumvit soi 55 near Thong Lor mean that you can experience some of the wide varieties from all over the country all from the comfort of the city, with travel no more difficult than a skytrain or taxi ride. With organic rice, free range meat and seasonal specialties this is a modern sensibility applied to age old traditional dishes. Open for dinner only starting at 5:30pm. website

Street food

On soi 1 - While street vendors can be found all long our road, and in the many soi, there are some particular concentrations that make it easy to sit down to a real complete street-food meal all in one place.  Right the heart of the city where the road begins at soi 1 there are many local cafes but continuing walking along the soi for just 3 or 4 minutes until on your right you find a covered but open air food hall where traditional street food is served.  There is no sign board in English but it is directly across the road from the Sombatpermpoon Art Gallery and so easily identifiable by that.   Opens for lunch and dinner

On soi 38 - Opening only in the evening this open air street dining near Thong Lor is actually a row of small shops which set up tables on the quiet road.  All your usual dishes will be here so tuck in to the mango and sticky rice after a Pathong Ko or a simple Phad thai. Travel by BTS and leave the station on the south west side via exit 4, you may see the Santi Suk Post Office with it's bright red postbox outside. With the postoffice on your right walk to the next turning and this is Soi 38.

International fast-food

There is no shortage of internal fast food chains along our road and you can easily see signs for KFC, Starbucks, Burger King, Subway and of course the ever present McDonald's. Take the BTS to Nut Station so you can visit the Tesco Lotus at Sukhumvit 50, but also while there McDonalds, Pizzahut, and just behind, KFC and Chester's Grill.
